The Drifters, a novel by James Michener

One of my favorite books on the subject of traveling is James Micheners novel "The Drifters".

There's a chapter titled "Tech Rep" which is probably the best description I've read of the field engineers lifestyle. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it.
